Multi-Point to Point Contact Closure Relay 8-Channel 5-Amp
Multi-Point to Point Contact Closure
The MIRWR85 boards contact closure inputs in multiple locations control relays in a single location. The sender boards are equipped with
contact closure inputs, used to control relays on the receiver board. Eight relays are installed on the Receiver Board and up to eight remote locations
can be added to control the relays (two are included in the price show here).
MIRWR85 The Ideal Choice
The relays on the receiver board can be used to interrupt the power of a device you are switching and also as a dry contact closure output.  The
MIRWR85 is designed for applications where multiple locations may need to trigger a single relay wirelessly.

Contact Closure From Multiple Locations
The MIRWR85 has one relay on the receiver board and can have up to eight remote locations that can all control the single receiver board. All Sender boards will have one contact closure input and any location can toggle the relay on or off. Contact closure inputs such as buttons, switches or other electronic devices (no voltage) attached to inputs on the sender boards will trigger the relays on the receiver board. The Sender
boards have an input while the Receiver board has the relay. When an input on any of the Sender boards are tripped by a contact closure the relay on a Receiver board is energized and will remain energized until the contact closure is released from any of the sender boards. Communication between the Sender boards and Receiver board is Wireless. Pricing shown on our web site indicates pricing for two contact closure sender boards and one receiver board. More sender boards can be added at checkout up to 8 locations.
Order of Operations
Contact closure inputs are read on a sender board
Data is sent to receiver board wirelessly to turn on or off relays
Remote Sender Locations
The remote locations (sender boards) communicate wirelessly from up to eight different locations. These locations will have to be in range of the receiver board which can be up to 1 mile (1.6km), for more see 802.15.4 Modules below. Each location will have your choice of one 5, 10, 20 or 30-amp relay onboard. The receiver board will receive a command from one of the the sender boards when a contact closure input is tripped to trigger the relay from different location. Additional remote locations can be added at a later date but all married boards in the system will need to be sent back for configuration.
The sender board and each receiver board is equipped with a Wireless 802.15.4 Module. The wireless module adds wireless communications to the board using an 802.15.4 wireless protocol and will only communicate with it's paired modules. The module is powered from the board and the board itself will require 12 volts of power and can be hard wired or you can purchase a "wall wart" type Power Supply at checkout.
The wireless range or distance the boards will be able to effectively communicate with each other has a "Standard Range"of 1-Mile (1.6km). This includes a small external antenna that can be positioned or placed outside of an enclosure. Hills, Trees, and Buildings will greatly reduce communication range of all wireless devices, so practical distances may be less.
900 MHz with Mesh Versions
MirW controllers are also available in a 900 MHz Mesh option with a range of 2-miles! The 900 MHz version requires a pathway no greater than 2-miles between the relay controller and the any of the transmitters. The 900 MHz Mesh version will pass data from transmitter to transmitter until it finds the receiver. With the Mesh option all transmitters do not have to be line-of-site to the receiver, only one of them does! 1-Mile option is faster than the 900 MHz with Mesh option. Expect reaction time of the 1-Mile version in under a second. Expect reaction time of the 900 MHz Mesh version within 5 seconds, but may take up to 30 seconds depending on your installation. Multiple 1-Mile and 2-Mile sets of controllers can exist in the same location without significant interference. All MirW series controllers come with an external antenna.
As with any wireless technologies, for optimal performance it needs to be line-of-sight. We can't stress this enough. In other words the antennas of the boards must "see" each other to get the optimal range or even be able to communicate at all. Obstructions like walls, buildings and even trees and hills can diminish the signal or prevent communication altogether. Metal being the worst for any wireless signal to penetrate with stone, brick and hills being a close second. Even though the module is rated for 1-mile (1.6 kilometer) does not mean that the signal will be able to penetrate these obstructions even at a short distance of a few feet!
An extension cable can be used position the antenna if needed. The cable should be no longer than 20' (6 m) to prevent signal loss. The antenna uses an RP-SMA connection or Reverse Polarity SMA connector.
Multiple MirW Sets
Multiple sets of the MirW boardss can be used within range of each other. The boards are married together using the serial numbers of the wireless modules installed, meaning multiple pairs will not interfere with each other! Please note: When there are large numbers of devices using the same channels, there will be interference that can cause dropped communications. There are ways to combat this interference, there are a few things that can be done. Contact us if you are quoting a large job for more information.
Who’s Qualified to Use the MirW Series?
Anyone! The MirW Series Controllers are very consumer-friendly devices that are married together through software and only require some wiring by the end user. Whether an electronics engineer or a home hobbyist, almost anyone is qualified to use the MirW Series controllers.
Perhaps the most overlooked aspect of relay control is proper handling of inductive loads. Inductive loads can best be defined as anything with a magnetic coil, such as a motor, solenoid, or a transformer. Controlling a inductive load using this relay controller requires the use of induction suppression capacitors. The purpose of this capacitor is to absorb the high voltages generated by inductive loads, blocking them from the contacts of the relay. Without this capacitor, the lifespan of the relay will be greatly reduced. Induction can be so severe that it electrically interferes with the microprocessor logic of our controllers, causing relay banks to shut themselves down unexpectedly. In the case of Ethernet devices, customers may experience loss of communications until the device is reconnected. Capacitors that we offer are available at checkout and you can find them on our Induction Page for their use and setup video.
We have looked at the interface and the MirW Concept now let's take a look at the board design itself. These controllers allow you to trigger a relay simply by using a contact closure (no voltage). All relays are electronically latched, depending on the contact closure input that you are using you can momentarily keep the relay on or use an Alternate Action Switch can trigger relay on then off. The relay on the receiver boards can also be used as a contact closure input in applications that require a contact closure trigger point. Fully tested before they leave the production facility each MirW pair is ready to stand up to rigorous demands from heat, cold or vibration. The best test of all is the numerous boards in the field from customers all over the world in all sorts of conditions. Take it from us, these controllers will hold up!
Break-A-Way Tabs for a Smaller Design
The MirW Sender Boards have a great feature where space is a premium - Break-A-Way Tabs. The Break-A-Way Tabs allow most receiver boards to fit in an optional undrilled plastic enclosure. Snap off the Break-A-Way Tabs and you have a receiver board with a smaller profile when you need to fit in a tight space.
Order your MirW led free and be RoHS Compliant. If your requirements are for RoHS compliant parts this board is manufactured with RoHS compliant led free parts and solder.
