MirM boards operate reliably and efficiently when the antennas can “see“ each other. Obstructions like walls, buildings and even trees and hills can diminish the signal or prevent communication altogether. Metal being the worst for any wireless signal to penetrate with stone and brick and being a close second. Positioning the antennas for line-of-site operation will greatly increase reliability.
Wireless Relay to Multiple Locations
The MIRMR85 inputs on the sender board and relays on the receiver boards and can have up to 24 receiver boards in remote locations depending on how many relays you have on the receiver boards. The Sender board will have 16, 32 or 48 contact closure (no voltage) inputs depending on the number of remote locations you select. We will ship you the sender board that will have enough contact closure inputs to control each relay independently.
The wireless range or distance the boards will be able to effectively communicate with each other has a "Standard Range"of 1Mile (1.6km). This includes a small external antenna that can be positioned or placed outside of an enclosure. Hills, Trees, and Buildings will greatly reduce communication range of all wireless devices, so practical distances may be less.
2.4 GHz Communications
The sender board and each receiver board is equipped with a Wireless XB24-AWI-EXT module that adds a wireless interface to the boards. The 2.4 GHz 802.15.4 communications module adds wireless communications between the boards. This module has a 1-mile (1.6 kilometer) wireless range, line-of-sight. The module is powered from the board and the board itself will require 12 volts of power and can be hard wired or you can purchase a "wall wart" type Power Supply at checkout.
As with any wireless technologies, for optimal performance it needs to be line-of-sight. We can't stress this enough. In other words the antennas of the boards must "see" each other to get the optimal range or even be able to communicate at all. Obstructions like walls, buildings and even trees and hills can diminish the signal or prevent communication altogether. Metal being the worst for any wireless signal to penetrate with stone, brick and hills being a close second. Even though the module is rated for 1-mile (1.6 kilometer) does not mean that the signal will be able to penetrate these obstructions even at a short distance of a few feet!
An extension cable can be used position the antenna if needed. The cable should be no longer than 20' (6 m) to prevent signal loss. The antenna uses an RP-SMA connection or Reverse Polarity SMA connector.
Multiple MirM Sets
Multiple sets of the MirM boardss can be used within range of each other. The boards are married together using the serial numbers of the wireless modules installed, meaning multiple pairs will not interfere with each other! Please note: When there are large numbers of devices using the same channels, there will be interference that can cause dropped communications. There are ways to combat this interference, there are a few things that can be done. Contact us if you are quoting a large job for more information.

Please Note: Users must NEVER apply any voltage to an input on the MirM Sender Board, these inputs are for Dry Contact Connections ONLY.
MirM controllers are a point to Multi-point set of boards that allow you to trigger relays by using a contact closure (no voltage). Each relay on each board location has it's own input on the sender board and can be wired together, seperatly or in any combination. The relays will remain energized as long as the contact closure input is closed, when the input opens the relay will turn off. Depending on the contact closure input that you are using you can momentarily keep the relay on or use an toggle switch can trigger relay on then off. The relays themselved provide no voltage and can be used as a dry contact output if needed.
There are three different sender boards available for the MirM boards. How many relays you have on all the receiver boards determines what sender board is shipped with your order. Remember, each relay in the field will have its own input on the sender board. The three sender boards available are with 16, 32 and 48 inputs. 2 to 16 relays in the field will be shipped the 16-input board, 17 to 32 relays will be shipped the 32-input board and 33 to 48 inputs will be shipped the 48-input board. If you require more than 48 inputs then additional sets will be required. The boards are married together using the serial addresses of the radios installed so multiple sets within range will not interfere with each other. Contact closure inputs such as buttons, switches or other electronic devices (no voltage) attached to inputs on the sender board will trigger relays on some or all of the remote locations. The Sender has inputs while the Receivers have relays. When an input on the Sender is tripped by a contact closure a relay on a Receiver board is energized and will remain energized until the contact closure is released. Wiring will determine what relay on what location will energize. Communication between the Sender and Receivers are Wireless. Pricing shown on our web site indicates pricing for one contact closure sender board and two receiver boards. More receiver boards can be added at checkout to control up to 24 locations.
The sender board can communicate wirelessly to 24 different Receiver Boards. These locations will have to be in range of the sender board which can be up to 1 mile (1.6km), for more see 802.15.4 Modules below. The remote locations will receive a command from the sender board when a contact closure input that is associated with the board is closed to energize a relay or a group of relays in different locations. When the Contact Closure circuit opens the associated relays will de-energize or turn off. Additional remote locations can be added at a later date but all married boards in the system will need to be sent back for configuration.
SPDT Relay Installed
This device has SPDT relays installed. SPDT Single Pole Double Throw Relays have three connections - Common, Normally Open, and Normally Closed. When the relay is off, the common is connected to the normally closed connection of the relay. When the relay coil is energized, the Common swings over to the Normally Open Connection of the Relay. You can wire the device you are switching to either the Normally Open or the Normally Closed position.

Perhaps the most overlooked aspect of relay control is proper handling of inductive loads. Inductive loads can best be defined as anything with a magnetic coil, such as a motor, solenoid, or a transformer. Controlling a inductive load using this relay controller requires the use of induction suppression capacitors. The purpose of this capacitor is to absorb the high voltages generated by inductive loads, blocking them from the contacts of the relay. Without this capacitor, the lifespan of the relay will be greatly reduced. Induction can be so severe that it electrically interferes with the microprocessor logic of our controllers, causing relay banks to shut themselves down unexpectedly. In the case of Ethernet devices, customers may experience loss of communications until the device is reconnected. Power Supply Available
The PWR12 is regulated power supply providing clean power necessary for
the performance of these boards. The PWR12 US power supply is a 120VAC to 12VDC 1.25A 60Hz regulated
power supply and it plugs into the barrel connector on the board. The output connector is a 2.1mm I.D. x 5.5mm
O.D. x 9.5mm R/A barrel connector.
