RS232 Relay

Serial Relay RS-232 Relay Board

RS232 Relay Board

RS232 Relay or Serial Relay Controller allows computer controlled switching using the Serial port of your computer.  Select RS232 relays support 8-Channels of 8-Bit / 10-Bit Analog to Digital Conversion (A/D), and include an XR Relay Expansion Port for adding additional relays to the RS232 Relay Controller Board (look for PROXR in the part number).

Supports any COM Port

An RS232 Relay supports any available COM port at any standard baud rate, allowing easy integration into any program that support serial communications. The RS232 Relay is ideally suited for applications that require data collection and control from a single device. Built-in temperature sensor allows temperature monitoring, analog to digital conversion, and relay control from a single device. RS-232 Interface Supports baud rates up to 115.2K Baud.
Setup for the R45Pro RS232 relay shown above using the optional QS12 Quick Start Kit. Simply Connect the Serial Interface to your Relay Controller, connect the Power and Serial Cable and start sending commands.

4 Channel RS232 Relay

RS232 Relay

Our RS232 boards offer your choice of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 or 30 amp relays and are available in many channel versions with your choice of eight channel 8/10-Bit Analog to Digital Conversion or UXP Expansion Port on selected models, look for AD or UXP in the part number. All are of course SignalSwitch compatible.  Selected RS232 Relays feature the ProXR Command Set and an XR Expansion Port, simply look for PROXR in the part number.  The XR Expansion Port will allow you to expand any ProXR model board to 256 relays using our XR Expansion Modules.  The UXP port will allow you to add Analog to Digital Expansion Modules, Contact Closure Input Modules or Digital Potentiometers to any UXP board.  For more on A/D Conversion and UXP Expansion see below.

RS232 - The Foundation for all Communication Technologies

While RS-232 is not built into some of today's motherboards, there are many applications where RS-232 is still the best choice.  Using a simple USB to Serial Adapter allows you to use RS-232 devices with ease.  This combination is actually better than using a device with a onboard USB port, because it eliminates most of your EMI problems while maintaining compatibility with today's computers.  RS-232 devices are perhaps versatile and most popular choices because of their ability to adapt to any other communication protocol.  For instance, using 3rd party devices, RS-232 relay controllers can be controlled from GSM modems, Ethernet to Serial Adapters, WiFi to Serial Adapters, USB to Serial Adapters, Bluetooth to Serial Adapters, and Wireless Mesh Network to Serial Adapters.  RS-232 will continue to adapt to all emerging technologies, as the foundation for all communication technologies has provisions for RS-232 communications.

Easy Connection with the Quick Start Kit

The video above shows how easy it is to connect an RS232 Relay to the computer with the optional Quick Start Kit.  The R45Pro 4 Channel Relay Controller is shown connected to the optional QS12 Quick Start Kit. Quick Start Kits provide everything you need to begin using your RS232 Relay Controller.  Kit includes a high quality regulated switcher supply, serial cable, and RSIO adapter.

ProXR versions

Onboard analog to digital conversion is available on selected models of these controllers! This will allow you to:

  • Read light and temperature levels
  • Easily activate relays when A/D limits are reached
  • Detect audio levels in a room when connected to a microphone
  • Read switches, potentiometers, and analog joysticks
  • applications are limitless, and surprisingly easy to integrate
  • Look for AD in the part number

UXP is a new standardized data port, specifically for the purpose of speaking to various expansion modules. If the controller you are considering is equipped with a UXP port, you can take advantage of extended commands to speak to our growing line of I/O expansion modules. UXP in the part number allows you to:

  • Add Contact Closure Inputs
  • Add Analog to Digital Inputs
  • Add Voltage Detectors
  • Digital Potentiometer Outputs
  • Look for UXP in the part number

Models with the ProXR suffix will feature the ProXR commend set. The ProXR series will allow you to:

NCD Component Library

Download NCD Component Library

By downloading the NCD Component Library you will receive over 40 samples from A/D Conversion to Duration and Pulse Timing and best of all it's FREE!! We want the user to be able to experiment with all the different samples available so as of right now the samples cannot be downloaded individually.

We've "Started" the Programming for You

With the NCD Component Library we've "started" the programming for you.  We say started because these are fully functioning samples but we've also included the source code so you can customize them to your exact needs.  Start by downloading the file from the NCD Component page.
